The Staunton Public Library provides numerous services and resources beyond books, including public computers, free wi-fi, a photocopier, fax machine, typewriter, artwork displays, special collections and meeting rooms available for public use and more.

For research requests, general questions or help with online resources, fill out an Ask a Librarian Form and a Librarian will get back to you. 

Book a Librarian 

Do you need one-on-one help with an issue? Fill out a Book a Librarian appointment request form and a librarian will schedule an appointment with you to meets your specific needs! The Book-a-Librarian service allows you to make an appointment in person with a librarian who can help! Appointments will last between 15-30 minutes and can cover basic technology instruction, how to use library resources, using microfilm to do research, and more! Please also use this form to make requests for test proctoring. 

Book a Librarian is also available for walk-in appointments Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Just ask at the Reference  desk. 

Computer Center

The Computer Center has PCs for Internet use and include Microsoft Office 2016 products. Computer users must read and understand the Staunton Public Library Computer Use Policy and Internet Use Disclaimer and abide by the rules of use. Children under age 10 may not use the Internet computers without direct supervision by a parent or guardian. Printing costs $0.25 per page. 

Digital Media Lab

The Digital Media Lab is available by appointment only and located on the first floor near the Reference Desk. Appointments are limited to two hours per day with exceptions made on a case-by-case basis. The Lab has digital conversion equipment that you can use to preserve your family history and home memories, a microfilm reader, and provides a quiet place for online meetings. Call the Reference desk at 540-332-3902 to reserve time in the Digital Media Lab.

Displays

The work, interests and collections of local people are displayed on the walls and in the glass-fronted cases on the First Floor. Community members are encouraged to share their collections. Please see our Display Application & Release Form for more information and how to apply. 

Mobile Printing

With our MobilePrint Service™, you can use your personal computer or mobile device to print to the library’s printers from anywhere. Simply submit documents for printing and come to the library to release and pick up your document using your library card.  Printing costs $0.25 per page.

  • How do I request the purchase of an item?

    The Library tries to honor patron requests for the purchase of items in print. Patrons may request items by filling out a Request for Reserve Form available at either circulation desk, or submit their request through our online form.

  • How can I get an interlibrary loan?

    The Interlibrary Loan program is designed to let patrons check out materials not available at any Library that is part of the Valley Libraries Catalog. To make an Interlibrary Loan request, Staunton Public Library patrons must fill out an Interlibrary Loan Request Form with information about the materials wanted. The patron is responsible for the return postage cost for the materials (generally between $4 and $6 per title) and patrons are limited to 3 requests at a time.

  • How do I make photocopies?

    The copy machine is located on the first floor of the Library in between the Circulation and Reference desks.  The copier has three sizes of paper and can be used to reduce or enlarge originals.  It is coin operated, and each black & white copy costs $0.10 per side. Color copies can be made for $0.25 per side. The machine accepts a maximum of $5.00 at one time and can take $5 and $1 bills, quarters, dimes and nickels.

  • Can I send a fax?

    Library staff can send faxes from the first floor Circulation Desk. Faxes cost $1 per page. The Library does not receive faxes.

  • Can I scan, save, or email documents?

    Our public photocopier can scan documents to a USB and scan to email. There is also flatbed scanner located in the Digital Media Lab. There is no charge to scan items into a .pdf document.

    From a public computer, you may save your items to a USB flash drive or email them to yourself/others. In order to email, you must be able to access your email from the web (i.e. gmail.com, yahoo.com, hotmail.com, outlook.com, etc).

  • Do you have a public typewriter?

    A typewriter for public use is located in the Digital Media Lab on the first floor of the Library. Patrons must bring their own paper.

  • Can I take a proctored exam?

    Yes. Review our proctor policies and contact the librarian to schedule a proctored exam.

  • What accommodations do you have for persons with disabilities or special needs?

    The Library encourages people with disabilities to use the Library and to attend our programs. Please alert us at least five business days in advance if there is a need for accommodation. Relay calls are accepted. Handicapped parking and a wheelchair accessible entrance to the Library are on the Oakenwold Street side of the building. The elevator is located to the left as you enter.  Wheelchair accessible bathrooms are on each floor. For information or assistance, please call 540.332.3902.
